Join us for the inaugural meeting of our Westchester Playa Democratic Club Book Club — a new space for thoughtful discussion, community building, and exploring the political issues shaping our world today.
We’re kicking things off with the timely and accessible book On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder — a short but powerful read that makes for an easy and engaging start to the series.
Copies are available for purchase at The Book Jewel for 10% off, and as a special incentive, the first ten people to RSVP wil receive a free copy!
Whether you’re an avid reader or just looking for meaningful conversation and civic engagement, we’d love to have you join us for this exciting first meeting.

AMCS PRIDEFEST 2026
Airport Marina Counseling Service (AMCS) will again host its annual PrideFest during the month of June, which is LGBT Pride Month. PrideFest came out of the AMCS LGBTQIA+ Affirmative Therapy Center and aims to provide an educational and affirming community event focused on health and wellness for our LGBTQ+ clients, community, and allies and to reduce stigma around mental health and raise awareness of low-cost or free mental health services in Los Angeles.
PrideFesT 2026
Saturday • June 20, 2026 • 2 to 5pm
AMCS parking lot • 7891 La Tijera Boulevard in Westchester
The FREE family-friendly outdoor event will feature multiple “Pride stations” with fun and educational activities and games facilitated by therapists from AMCS’s LGBTQIA+ Affirmative Therapy Center, plus guest speakers, music, food, and more. Dr. Mimi Hoang, psychologist, longtime LGBTQ advocate, and Program Coordinator of AMCS’s LGBTQIA+ Affirmative Therapy Center, will be the host and MC of Pride Fest.
“We’re thrilled to host this annual event in celebration of LGBT Pride Month and to raise awareness of the importance of mental health services in the LGBTQ community, which is at higher risk of mental health concerns due to minority stress,” said Dr. Hoang. “We hope that PrideFest will help reduce the stigma around mental health services and encourage more people to seek the help they need.”

NO KINGS PROTESTS
The March 2026 No Kings protests are a planned coordination of peaceful protests that will take place on March 28, 2026. They will be part of a series of demonstrations taking place largely in the United States, primarily as a result of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement operations after recent shootings by immigration agents, most notably the killings of Renée Good, Keith Porter, and Alex Pretti.

"Social Media, Misinformation, and You”
We are very excited to work with the Book Jewel to host a talk on social media and misinformation with Samuel C. Spitale, author of the book How to Win the War on Truth: An Illustrated Guide to How Mistruths Are Sold, Why They Stick, and How to Reclaim Reality.
Social Media, Misinformation, and You
Social media once promised to bring users together in the digital space, but instead, it’s been used to spread disinformation, sow division, and radicalize impressionable minds in an increasingly insulated media environment. Media literacy author Samuel C. Spitale discusses how we got here, who benefits from the discord, and how to recognize media messages designed to divide and deceive.
Samuel C. Spitale is an author, media studies expert, and communications instructor at Loyola Marymount. He's trained journalism students at the State Department's International Digital Education and Arts Program and has been a featured speaker at the Clinton Presidential Center’s Civic Education Institute and Student Presidential Leaders Series.
Space is limited, so please RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/cadems/event/875862/
